Becoming a mother is an immediate and often overwhelming life change. Mothers may be surprised that feelings of sadness can accompany feelings of joy. These feelings may last a couple of weeks or may have a sudden onset that can last much longer. There may be feelings of being overwhelmed, guilt, confusion or anxiety. Some women have trouble eating or sleeping while others feel like their life is out of control. Postpartum depression screening is done weekly.
This weekly support group recognizes that it takes almost a year to adjust to the addition of a new family member. Mothers can share experiences, discuss questions, develop skills and find alternatives to work through the adjustments of the postpartum period. Attend anytime during the first year after your baby's birth. The group meets weekly on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Preregistration is not necessary. Call 319/369-7580 for more information.
