Getting Started

Before You Begin

Consider your schedule and when you would be available to volunteer. Some people prefer a weekly assignment while others want to volunteer on an on-call basis.

Note areas of interest

Review the list of  Volunteer Opportunities. Note the areas that interest you.

Fill out an application

Call St. Luke's Volunteer Office at 319/369-7213 to request an application via mail.
-or-
Go to our online Volunteer Application page. Complete the volunteer application form and hit the submit button. We will contact you by e-mail or mail with further information after we receive your application.

Schedule an interview

A Volunteer Services staff member will contact you to schedule an interview. They will want to talk about your experience and interests, your reasons for wanting to volunteer and the times you are available to volunteer.

Meet standard health requirements

If you and the St. Luke's staff member feel that volunteering in a hospital setting would be the right fit for you, you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire and take an annual tuberculosis test.

Orientation

After all of the above has been completed you will be asked to attend an orientation that will introduce you to volunteering in a hospital.
