St. Luke's announces appointment of new Chief Medical Officer

After an extensive nationwide search, St. Luke’s Hospital announced the appointment of Charles Schauberger, MD, MS, as Vice President, Chief Medical Officer (CMO). He replaces James LaMorgese, MD, who retired from the position earlier this year.

Dr. Schauberger, who is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, has 30 years of experience in direct patient care and healthcare management. He has been a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI, since 1982.

Dr. Schauberger held the positions of Interim and Associate Medical Director for the Gundersen Health Plan. Other leadership positions include Medical Director for Quality Improvement, chair of the Medication Safety Taskforce and Patient Safety Council, OB-GYN Department chair and he also was a Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award examiner for two years.

Dr. Schauberger completed his residency at the University of Iowa Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Iowa City, and earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa. He is a fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Schauberger and his wife, Linda, have three sons. He starts his post at St. Luke’s November 17.
