Stroke Camp offered to survivors

March 26, 2009

According to the American Stroke Association (ASA) stroke ranks as the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer. Stroke is also the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States. ASA estimates Americans paid about $65.5 billion in 2008 for stroke-related medical costs and disability.

For the victim of a stroke and their family – life as they know can change in an instant. There’s the initial shock, hospitalization, recovery, therapy and returning home, learning to adjust with the “new normal.” Dealing with these changes can be stressful and overwhelming – and that’s why St. Luke’s Hospital is offering a memorable experience for stroke survivors and their caregivers.

This summer St. Luke's is offering a camp for stroke survivors and caregivers who are or have been patients. The goal is to provide individuals with an enjoyable and fun filled weekend retreat with other survivors, caregivers and family members, which will include education, socialization, relaxation and support.
