According to the latest figures from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization an estimated 1.4 million patients received services from hospice in 2007. This figure is up from 950,000 patients five years earlier.
As our population ages and lives longer – thanks in part to great medical care – the more important the need is for compassionate, quality hospice care. St. Luke’s Hospice is positioned to satisfy these increased demands and has moved to a new location to better meet the needs of its patients, families and volunteers.
“This year we are celebrating our 20th year,” said James Bell, MD, St. Luke’s Hospice medical director. “In the last two decades we have provided dignified physical, emotional, social and spiritual support for terminally ill patients and their families. This new location gives us room to grow and continue to offer special end-of-life care for adults and children with all types of life-limiting illnesses.”
Beginning April 1, St. Luke’s Hospice is located at 290 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Suite 100. The phone number remains the same 319/369-7744 and the new office includes:
- Grief Library
- Support group space
- Private meeting space for patients and their caregivers
- Volunteer room
- Bereavement volunteer room
- Office areas
To celebrate -- St. Luke’s Hospice is hosting a Chamber ribbon cutting and offering tours of its new Hospice location on May 13.
