Walk planned to help grieving parents

September 16, 2009

The public is invited to participate in an upcoming walk to help grieving parents. The event is called the Long Walk to Remember. In its 5th year, the annual walk is designed to help families cope with the loss of a child. The program features a brief memorial service and special musical program, followed by a walk around Noelridge Park. This year, participants will be invited to write a message of remembrance to be placed in fire pit.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for people to come together and remember the child who died,” said Susan Long, event organizer. “I lost a son and I believe this event allows parents like myself the chance to keep their child’s memory alive in a setting where everyone has been there and knows how it feels. It’s a club no one wants to belong to.”

The Long Walk to Remember is set for Sunday, September 27. Family and caregivers who have suffered the loss of a child at any time in their lives are invited.
