Free educational event on sensory processing disorder

September 21, 2009

St. Luke’s Witwer Children’s Therapy is inviting the community to a free awareness and educational event called Sensory Showtime on sensory processing disorder. This program is set for Thursday, October 8 from 6:30-8 p.m. in St. Luke's Nassif Heart Center classrooms. It will feature a screening of "Autistic -- Like Graham's Story", a film by Erik Linthorst about one dad's determined search to help his son. After the showing St. Luke’s will have a panel of experts to answer audience questions on sensory issues in children.

Children with sensory processing disorder have difficulty processing information from the senses (touch, movement, smell, taste, vision, and hearing) and responding appropriately to that information. These children typically have one or more senses that either over or under react to stimulation. Sensory processing disorder can cause problems with a child's development and behavior.
