St. Luke's Marion Campus offering walk in mammograms

September 28, 2009

St. Luke’s is kicking off October as Breast Cancer Awareness month by offering walk-in mammograms at:

St. Luke’s Marion Campus.

By simply walking in, women can receive a mammogram at a time convenient for them with a doctor’s order -- starting October 1. The Marion Campus is located at 2996 7th Avenue. Walk-in’s are available Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Preference will be given to patients with appointments.

"This is our way of helping women fit health care into their lives, instead of fitting their lives around healthcare," said Kristi Thomson, RT, St. Luke’s Breast & Bone Health manager. “We will begin offering walk-in mammograms in October and will continue to provide this service beyond Breast Cancer Awareness month because it’s the right thing to do for our patients.”

Breast cancer is a leading cause of death in American women, with one out of every eight developing the disease sometime in her life. However, when detected early, it is also one of the most treatable forms of cancer.

For more information on walk-in mammograms, call 319/369-4344. For quicker service, appointments are still recommended.
