St. Luke’s helping new moms with live blog

November 16, 2009

In an effort to help new moms during flu season, St. Luke’s Hospital has started live blogging several baby classes.

Last month in an effort to protect patients, both Cedar Rapids hospitals followed the Linn County Health Department’s recommendations and limited hospital visitors to two adults for each patient. This means support groups and classes with infants have been discontinued until further notice.

These postponed classes include Mommy and Me and the Breastfeeding Support Group. In an effort to support new moms St. Luke's decided to offer a limited number of groups online.

“We started using the Web based tool “Cover it Live” last week as a means for these new moms to ask a St. Luke’s expert questions and connect with other new moms,” said Diane Seelau, St. Luke’s Women’s and Children’s Center director. “This live blogging service is a nice alternative to allow us to provide educational and emotional support to new parents during the flu season.”

Schedule for these groups:

Mommy and Me (newborn-4 months) - Mondays from noon-1 p.m.
Mommy and Me (4-8 months) - Thursdays from 11 a.m.-noon
Mommy and Me (8-12 months) - Thursdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Breastfeeding Support Group - Tuesdays from 4-5:30 p.m.

How to join in:

Groups are password protected. Please call 319/369-7166 to get the log in information.

These classes will remain online until further notice. St. Luke’s prenatal classes are still being held in the Women’s & Children’s Center.
