St. Luke’s Hospital distributed 2,300 doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine during a public clinic last week in Hiawatha.
Anne Strellner, St. Luke’s Safety and Regulatory Compliance said the hospital had about 4,500 doses available to distribute. The vaccine was provided by the Linn County Department of Public Health.
“There were people lined up for the clinic before it opened,” said Strellner. “We were able to open about 30 minutes early to accommodate those folks and we had a steady stream of people getting the vaccine throughout the day. There was very little wait for much of the day. We received many compliments on the flow of the clinic. We were pleased to be able to provide this community service.”
St. Luke’s set up 16 vaccine stations in the Former Floor Trader building in Hiawatha for the seven hour walk-in clinic. Both flu mist and shots were available. This walk-in clinic was free and open to all ages.
There were 57 St. Luke’s employees and volunteers that assisted with the December 28th vaccination clinic – contributing 370 hours.
