Next Steps Support Group – Play Therapy for Grown Ups in August

For those who have lost a loved one, grief support groups often offer much needed encouragement from both bereavement professionals and peers who have experienced similar loss.

To help meet this need, St. Luke’s Hospice offers a free monthly support group, called Next Steps, which focuses on various topics each month. The August 24th session will focus on play therapy for adults – something many adults may not have tried before to explore grief and loss.

During the August support group, titled “Helpful Activities that Bring Comfort After a Loss,” grievers will learn how to utilize play therapy, which can be very helpful in the bereavement process. Featured guest speaker, Terry Kottman, Ph.D., Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, NCC, LMHC, will show grievers techniques that adults can use in exploring their grief by engaging participants in a hands-on activity. Additional resources for ongoing bereavement support will be provided by St. Luke’s Hospice social workers.

Next Steps is held the fourth Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Luke’s Hospice, located at 290 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Suite 100 in Cedar Rapids. Pre-registration is not required, and any adult can attend – regardless of whether they have experienced hospice care.
