St. Luke’s Hospital is celebrating National Volunteer week with a special recognition program Friday, April 23 from 4-6 p.m. at KTOS (Kirkwood Training and Outreach Services) in Cedar Rapids.
This week St. Luke’s is recognizing the donation of 107,255 hours by 984 volunteers. Additionally, 26 St. Luke’s volunteers will receive an award for Excellence in Volunteering. These volunteers will be honored at the Volunteer and Auxilian Recognition program on Friday.
“We're very proud and appreciative of all our volunteers,” said Angela Berns, manager of Volunteer Services at St. Luke’s. “This is just one way to show them how thankful we are of their time and efforts on behalf of the hospital.”
St. Luke’s volunteers work in many departments, such as the Emergency Department, gift shop, lab and entrances to assist patients and visitors. Volunteer opportunities can either have direct or in-direct patient contact. Volunteer ages range from 14 to 100.
In addition to the upcoming recognition program, there are hundreds of puzzle pieces posted on the walls of St. Luke’s cafeteria. Each puzzle piece lists the volunteers name and number of hours they worked at St. Luke’s last year.
