Spiritual Care Classes

Introduction to Spiritual Companioning

This course offers students the opportunity to develop the understanding and necessary skills to provide intentional spiritual care and companionship to people in crisis and those who struggle with chronic life circumstances. St. Luke's chaplains serve as instructors for the course, and use a combination of assigned readings, presentations, role-play and class discussion.

The course is offered three times during the year. Each course involves seven, three-hour classes held once a week at St. Luke's Hospital. It is open to the community, and is a requirement for those who wish to be considered as a candidate for becoming a volunteer Patient Visitor or volunteer On-Call Chaplain with the Spiritual Care department and have not previously received formal training in institutional spiritual care.

Please contact St. Luke's Spiritual Care department at 319/369-7347 for course schedule and associated fees.
