Programs for Children/Teenagers

St. Luke's provides a number of programs for children and teenagers to help them cope with mental, emotional and behavioral concerns.

Children's treatment program

This program helps children who display serious behavioral and emotional difficulties at home, school or in the community. Children are taught social skills, anger management and coping skills. The family component of the program also teaches families to deal effectively with their childrens' behaviors.

There are three levels of care for children:

  • Partial hospitalization - our most intensive program
  • Intensive outpatient program - transition for children between partial hospitalization and day treatment program
  • Day treatment program - our less intensive program

Adolescent LIFE program

This day program assists teenagers with making the transition home from the hospital or other placements, or to avoid hospitalization altogether. Adolescents are taught social skills, anger management and coping skills. There are also various educational components that teach relaxation, pregnancy avoidance and how to deal effectively with peer pressure. There are two different levels of care - partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program.

CITE classrooms

This highly structured and therapeutic classroom-styled program primarily serves elementary-aged students who are dealing with emotional, behavioral, social and educational needs.

Students are provided specialized support that has been created to help prepare them for successful integration into the public school setting. Each Individualized Education Plan(IEP) provided through this program is consistent with and developed through the collaboration of the Cedar Rapids Community School District, St. Luke's Hospital and Grant Wood Area Education Agency.

Eating disorders

Anorexia and bulimia can have devastating effects on patients and their families. St. Luke's provides inpatient and outpatient treatment services for individuals with eating disorders.

Counseling for families

St. Luke's Counseling Center provides individual, group and family therapy for patients of all ages who are dealing with emotional and behavioral issues.
