Is a total joint replacement surgery in your future? Knowing what to expect can ease your worries, and learning all that you can about the recovery process can speed healing.
All patients scheduled for joint replacement surgery will need to attend an informational class prior to your procedure. Class sizes are small – with about 10 other patients – and are held at the hospital every Tuesday. The class will last about 90 minutes. We have a class specifically for knee replacement (10 a.m.) and a class that covers hip replacement (1:30 p.m.). Once you arrive at the hospital, a volunteer will escort you and your guest to the education room.
Classes are an extremely important part of your pre-op plan. We’ll view a slide presentation, watch demonstrations by therapy staff and go over such details such as packing for your hospital stay, what to do to prepare for surgery, pain management and what to expect when you get home from the hospital. We’ll also have an interactive discussion with a question/answer session to ensure that your concerns are answered. You will also receive a comprehensive Total Joint Folder that includes information and a place to collect the documents that you will need to bring with you the day of the surgery, and take home with you when you are discharged.
We hope you’ll take advantage of this educational opportunity. It’s been proven that patients that attend a joint replacement class prior to surgery are better prepared and recover faster than those that do not attend.
